Repeater mode is used to link a local wireless router to a remote wireless router that is connected to the Internet. Using Repeater mode allows you to extend wireless coverage around your house or office. With the proper after-market antennas extending coverage over several miles is possible.
Before you try to get Repeater Mode to work , it is IMPERITIVE you plug your pc directly into your router in one of the LAN 1-4 network connectors and configure it for Client-Routed mode FIRST, and connect to the internet through a cable. The wireless connection at this point is through the 2 routers.
Repeater mode will cut your speed in half, (if connecting wirelessly from your pc) which isn't really a big deal if you have 5 meg service and want to surf the net from your deck. When connecting to a wired port on the "repeater router" I don't see much of a speed difference.
It really is simple if you set your 2nd router up EXACTLY as I state below.
1. It is assumed at this point that you have the latest Sveasoft basic software loaded on the router which you want to make a repeater
2. It is also assumed your main router connected to the internet has the ap set up for dhcp and the gateway address is 192.168.1.1
3. Reset your 2nd router, which you will use as the repeater, to default by holding in the reset button on the back of the router until the 1-4 leds all light up (approx 15 seconds)
4. Log into your router through a cable 192.168.1.1 username: admin, password: admin
5. Leave the Automatic configuration as dhcp
6. Router Name client mode
7. dns#1 - 192.168.2.150
8. Local Ip Address 192.168.2.150
9. Subnet 255.255.255.0
10. Gateway 0.0.0.0
11. Click save, wait for the router to reboot, but from this point on to get into the router, you need to enter 192.168.2.150 from your browser.
12. Click wireless from the main menu
13. Wireless mode client routed
14. Mixed
15. SSID enter the ssid you want to connect to EXACTLY lower/uppercase matters.
16. Click save settings
17. unplug your pc from the router and let it reboot. Give it a couple of minutes and plug your pc into the router. Make sure you pc is setup for automatic DHCP and not static ip assignment. If need be, click repair on your pc wireless connection to get new ip assignment.
18. Log back into the router :192.168.2.150 go to security and click on - firewall disable
19. Click Save and reboot unplug pc. Give the router a couple minutes.
20. Plug PC back in and you should have access to the internet.
21. If you dont have access to the internet at this point youve done something wrong.
21A. Backup your configuration at this point. A backup will allow you to easily reload your settings should something go wrong.
22. NOW its time to go to repeater mode
23. Log into the router 192.168.2.150
24. Click on wireless
25. Wireless Mode repeater
26. mixed
27. Set the SSID to the router you wish to connect to. Lower/upper case matter. Example: linksys
28. Wireless Channel 6 you need to put the channel to the one your main router is broadcasting on. You can find this by going on the router and clicking status then wireless, then survey
29. SSID Enable.
30. Save settings, reboot router, disconnect your pc from the cable and connect to it via wireless. Let the router reboot for a couple minutes and connect to the Repeater router via your wireless connection
Best of luck
